The Cottonwoods by the Verde River
Cottonwood, AZ properties wasn't always as sought after as it is today. Before it was founded in 1879, Cottonwood was a parcel of land that was plagued by Malaria and Dysentery. Life back then was definitely not as comfortable as it is now.
Taking its name from 16 big cottonwoods which grew close to the beautiful Verde River, the city of Cottonwood soon started attracting more settlers. By the time the city was founded, several families had moved to this city in Northern Arizona. Cottonwood progressed into a farming settlement; residents would grow crops, have some cattle, and trade with nearby Jerome and Camp Verde.
In just a matter of years, the city was booming. Even back in the day, residents of Cottonwood were known as an industrious lot who enjoyed life. All sorts of businesses could be found in the city by the time the roaring '20s rolled in – a movie picture theater, pool halls, hotels, and an ice cream parlor, among other shops. It is for this reason that Cottonwood came to be known as the "Biggest Little Town in Arizona." Moving forward from the past, this charming little city which was incorporated in 1960 has definitely come a long way from its colorful beginnings.
With a population of over 10,000 and a total area of 10.7 square miles, life is still a pleasure in Cottonwood, AZ.
